Field-tested industry ranges:

  • Indoor setups → 800–2,000 nits
  • Outdoor daytime events → 5,000–7,000+ nits minimum

Anything below ~5,000 nits outdoors and you start losing contrast immediately, especially on reflective stage surfaces or angled sunlight.

A lot of “cheap outdoor screens” look fine in shade but completely collapse under direct sun. That’s usually where rental crews regret going budget.
